Hello. Welcome. Can I get you anything? A wine? Coffee? A bio?

Kaitlin Fontana is an Emmy-nominated TV and film writer, director, and producer, and a National Magazine award-winning essayist. In a not-so-distant past life, she was a music journalist. She's the current host of the WGAE's craft and process podcast, OnWriting.

She is a 2018 NYTVF Development Deal recipient ("Peace," Audible) as well as a finalist in the 2018 HBOAccess Directing Fellowship. Her directorial debut, FRANCHESCA, was an official 2018 Sundance Film Festival selection. Kaitlin is a 2018 WriteHer List Honoree, an inaugural 2017 WGA/Made in New York Writers Room Fellow, 2017 Showtime Tony Cox Award winner, and 2017 Bitch List Honoree, all for her pilot CASEY CAN'T, which is currently in development.

Things to Read

Sometimes, I write essays. Occasionally, journalism. Once, I wrote a book.

My personal favorites:

The Non-Monogamist (Essay Series, Chatelaine, 2018)

"An Older Version of Me" (Essay, The Walrus, 2015)

"The Flight Album" (National Magazine Award winning essay, The Walrus, 2010)

"Notes on the End of Cynicism" (Essay, Maisonneuve, 2010)

I wrote a book called Fresh at Twenty: The Oral History of Mint Records (ECW Press, Toronto) in 2011. If you're into music history and Canadian indie record labels, then hey: this book is for you.

"An in-depth overview of the last 20 years of Vancouver music, Fresh at Twenty: The Oral History of Mint Records is a must for any music obsessive." - TheTyee.ca

"Kaitlin Fontana's Fresh at Twenty will have all the cool kids pretending they were there when cub ruled the world -- and given how thorough and entertaining this oral history is, they'll probably be able to fake it." - Kyle Anderson, author of Accidental Revolution: The Story of Grunge
